6 Vintage Glass Cabochons - 18x13 Faceted Bermuda Blue
Description
This is a lot of six (6) stunning 1950's - 1960's vintage West German glass cabochons. My guess is that they were trying to mimic the look of Swarovki's "Pagoda" beads and buttons, as the overall look is quite similar.
One of the most interesting features about these cabs is their shape and cut, which allows for wonderful play of light effects. Hopefully, the photos give a clear idea of this unique shape, as it is difficult to describe. The stones are concave (the center is indented, the edges are raised) and the front sides have slight ridges. The silver foiled backs are faceted.
They measure 18mm wide x 13mm high x 7mm deep (front to back). The color is a deep aqua blue, with flashes of green and purple toward the outer edges. It is very similar to Swarovski's classic "Bermuda Blue" color (it's the color shown in the 2nd pic).
Some show minor foil flaking (as in, tiny specks). I've not found this to be a problem in my own work, but I usually do beaded/closed backed bezels. It might be more noticable in an open backed setting.
