Vintage Glass Sew-ons Nailheads - Hematite

Description

These beautiful old nailheads (also referred to as "sew-ons") are truly spectacular! The finish is a stunning metallic silver, which has a moderate patina that adds shades of hematite. They measure approximately 5 mm each, and the lot contains 20 of these special old beads.

Sew-ons were extremely popular with the garment industry from the turn of the century on through the 1940's. Most were made in Germany and Czechoslovakia. This particular style, with a round facetted top and flat back, is often referred to as a "nailhead" (which is exactly what they look like when sewn down).

These uncommon old beads can be used for jewelry design, bead embroidery, crazy quilting, scrapbooking, mixed media art and anything else your creative heart desires :o)
